Harvard Medical School consider refraiming mission

Harvard Medical School (HMS) in the USA has recently announced to its faculty that it is “reassessing” the School’s mission statement. They consider reframing their mission from the sickness model to health.

Whereas the current HMS mission statement lands wholly on a disease focus, HMS asks recipients to provide input on the following proposed new statement of mission:

“To create and nurture a diverse community dedicated to teaching and learning, discovery and scholarship, service and leadership to improve health and wellness for everyone.”

This would be a bold move indeed from sick care to real health care.
